If you're looking for a fun, fulfilling, well-paying part-time job, you're in the right place.  Because we hold our teachers to high standards, there is a mandatory audition process. We welcome new additions to the team year-round but prioritize those able to travel to students' houses. If you would like to audition, simply click on the button below and fill out the form. The Audition.

What to expect

 

This audition will consist of 3 parts:

 

  1. Performance of a piece of your choice: to gage your technical skill level

  2. A mock piano lesson: a simulation of all the possible difficulties one could encounter in the course of a lesson. Come prepared! See below for more information.

  3. A short interview: to find out more about how you would teach piano, and your availability for the year.

 

What you will need to bring:

 

  • proof of your Royal Conservatory of Music qualification

  • sheet music for the piece you will be performing (optional)

 

The Mock Lesson:

 

 This will consist of 3 parts:

 

  1. Go over last week’s homework

  2. Teach this week’s lesson

  3. Debrief - answer the questions:

    • What were the student’s weaknesses?

    • How can the student focus her practicing to deal with her weaknesses?

    • How do you deal with discipline issues?

 

The homework and lesson materials will be sent to you once you sign up for the audition. You are strongly encouraged to plan out how you will teach the concepts. We will be looking for patience and creativity!

 

 

Requirements

Do you have what it takes?

 

We're looking for teachers with these characteristics:

 

  • high school or university students living in the Kitchener-Waterloo area

  • minimum Grade 9 Royal Conservatory of Music qualification

  • able to hold lessons in own home or able to travel to students' houses

  • experience teaching or working with children

  • patient

  • responsible (able to keep to a schedule and show up consistently and punctually for lessons)

  • creative (come up with innovative and fun ways to teach concepts effectively)

Why teach piano?

As a teacher in this studio, you will:

 

  • be guaranteed piano students

  • set your own hours

  • earn 150% of minimum wage ($16 / hour)

  • work from home (depending on your student)

  • not have to worry about nitty-gritty logistical items (such as issuing tax receipts or organizing year-end recitals)

  • develop personal relationships with your students while investing in their lives
