If you're looking for a fun, fulfilling, well-paying part-time job, you're in the right place. Because we hold our teachers to high standards, there is a mandatory audition process. The Audition.
What to expect
This audition will consist of 3 parts:

Performance of a piece of your choice: to gage your technical skill level

A mock piano lesson: a simulation of all the possible difficulties one could encounter in the course of a lesson. Come prepared! See below for more information.

A short interview: to find out more about how you would teach piano, and your availability for the year.
What you will need to bring:

proof of your Royal Conservatory of Music qualification
-
sheet music for the piece you will be performing (optional)
The Mock Lesson:
This will consist of 3 parts:

Go over last week’s homework
-
Teach this week’s lesson
-
Debrief - answer the questions:
-
What were the student’s weaknesses?
-
How can the student focus her practicing to deal with her weaknesses?

How do you deal with discipline issues?
-
The homework and lesson materials will be sent to you once you sign up for the audition. You are strongly encouraged to plan out how you will teach the concepts. We will be looking for patience and creativity!
Requirements
Do you have what it takes?
We're looking for teachers with these characteristics:
-
high school or university students living in the Kitchener-Waterloo area
-
minimum Grade 9 Royal Conservatory of Music qualification
-
able to hold lessons in own home or able to travel to students' houses
-
experience teaching or working with children
-
patient
-
responsible (able to keep to a schedule and show up consistently and punctually for lessons)
-
creative (come up with innovative and fun ways to teach concepts effectively)
